These are growing more popular. Some investors opt to proudly display their coins in archival folders, while others prefer airtight capsules, or mylar-lined 2x2's. Whatever you do, don't store yours in the soft flips you frequently find in the market. They are comprised of polyvinyl chloride which decomposes in time and destroys the coin it was intended to preserve. In the event you purchase a coin already in one of these, transfer it as quickly as possible to something better. You may consider Mylar, but recognize that these are hard and may scratch the piece if isn't placed and removed carefully. While they are not airtight, they're adequate alternatives for moderate value coins that will be "left alone" for numerous years.
